The rising of a new dawn, was what many Zimbabweans envisioned. What they got was nowhere near what they had imagined, even in their wildest dreams. The new era that was in sight with a new political party, hopefully a chance to be able to get basic food commodities, be able to exercise freedom of speech, to go to the bank without the fear of not being able to get your money. What they received is continued torture and brutality, absence of almost all commodities, continued hyper- inflation and failure of the African Union to step up to the plate and help their suffering neighbours.

Most people are now finding it useless to continue to go to work. A Zimbabwean worker in Bulawayo, the second largest city in Zimbabwe, has resorted to staying at home as they have found it pointless

to continue to go to work and earn the equivalent to USD5 that ultimately will be unable to pay rent or even be enough for transportation to work, not to mention purchasing food.

Farai, a student based in the resort town of Victoria Falls said she receives USD1 as a government grant for their studies; however her rent expenses are now USD20, payment has been requested to be in US dollars, due to the instability of the local currency. She has been left with no choice than to pack her belongings and make her way back home, to yet another hopeless situation.

Everyone has similar or even worse accounts of life in Zimbabwe after the elections. How long should the people of Zimbabwe be left to suffer, how far must they be asked to bend before they break in

Zimbabwe: A New Dawn

Welcome to Zimbabwe (Land of Contradiction)

Once colonised in 1890,

And uncolonised in 1980,

This is the land of

Contradictions my friends,

Where you will meet,

The laughing hyenas

And the crying children

The chattering monkeys

And the roaring lions,

Where you will meet,

The doubting eagles in the sky

And the hissing snakes

In the grass Visitor,

Welcome to Zimbabwe.

This is where you will meet …

Have your say….

· Should MDC have stayed the course in the run-off elections?

· What new strategies should the average Zimbabwean adopt to survive the harsh prevailing economic and political climate in Zimbabwe?

· Are Zimbabweans being denied their basic human rights?
